Maud 1 Glasgow 0

This weekend has been quite hectic for myself and he who helps me to shift flyers. On Friday we did a whistle-stop tour of Edinbuggery do drop off some flyers for Feugh Fest. Then over to Cumbernauld, where we got lost on the way and ended up going straight to Glasgow :-)

We met up with my bro and his mates, who were already getting a bit pished in JT Rockhead in the Trongate. We soon wandered down to Glasgow Green - to see Radiohead!!

Pictures are courtesy of my crappy phone. You could tell that this gig was organised by DF Concerts; gates opened at 4pm, and it had the feel of a mini festival. There were food stalls everywhere, providing things like haggis to pork rolls to the trusty burgers.

I liked seeing Radiohead as it isn't often that I get to check out a really famous band in a big venue. But, herein lies the problem for me. I couldn't really see the stage, I could only make out what was going on from the big TV screens on the stage. This made me feel quite detached from the gig, and I wasn't prepared to get squished by moving further forward.

Radiohead themselves were on quite good form, though I did notice the odd slip here and then. They almost lost it on their second song of their set, the band seemed to alter the tempo quite a lot during 'no surprises' and 'paranoid android' could have done with tightening up a bit.

After the gig we headed to Cumberauld to stay at my dad's house. We didn't get to bed until 1am and had to get up a 6am to travel up to Aberdeen. Waaah!! I had to come back up to do some flyering for Feugh Fest. Sometimes when I was walking along Belmont Street I felt tired to the point of delirium :-(

Flyering finished at 3pm, but we weren't finished yet. I had a gig to go to in Maud!

I was depping for a rock'n'roll covers band called Rock Solid. I was playing my sax for the night; I was so tired that I'm surprised that I had enough energy to continue breathing nevermind find some puff for the saxophone.

I have to say that the Maud marquee was an experience. The normal clientele for a covers band are mid 20s to early 30s. Out in Maud however, it must have been the highlight of the teeny-bopper social calendar. It reminded me of school discos; the adults hiding in a corner or propping up the bar. The flocks of giggly girls that dance for one song and then scamper outside to find their smuggled half bottle of vodka from behind the bushes. I saw some sights up in Maud: loved-up horny teenage couples slow dancing and snogging. I got the fabulous view of some horny young bloke squeezing his girlfriend's bum while they were snog-dancing. Ew! It's enough to put you off your solo. The whole night I was surrounded with daft wee boys acting like dicks to anyone that got near to them cos they were trying to show off to their mates. It has been a long time since I have seen people that were that wankered!

Love the bar - rustic!

Even though the Maud marquee had more than it's fair share of numpties, but I had to admit that I enjoyed myself more in Maud than in Glasgow. I like having a change of scenery, and Maud certainly provided a contrast from Aberdeen. I need to thank Rock Solid for taking me under their wing and making my little gig really enjoyable :-)
